Challenge

Our client was struggling with poor quality, manually produced exec and commercial BI.

The data layer and reporting tools were badly outdated due to a history of neglect and a lack of data strategy or efficient operating model

The exec were asking for improved insight, however, this was manifesting as a lot of noise rather than a structured, documented suite of requests

Solution

Initially, we worked with the exec and other key stakeholders to understand their current gaps and key points of frustration, prioritizing a set of requirements for MVP and staged development of a new suite of dashboards and reports to inform commercial decisions.

Next up, we designed a new operating model for Data and BI, replanning existing resource and identifying gaps to be filled through hires.

Alongside this, we assessed a number of BI tools, before settling on Looker as the best option.

Finally, we built the roadmap for dashboard and report roll out in partnership with the data and BI management and sourced and assessed hires for data strategy and BI design and delivery leadership.

We offered some hands-on support and guidance throughout the early phases of the roll out.

Results

Stakeholders saw a significant improvement in both the availability of information and insight and the speed at which that insight could be produced.

Linked KPIs cascading from topline trading concerns down into commercial activity performance created a more joined up approach and clearer understanding of performance at multiple levels.

Decision-making speed was improved significantly due to a greatly increased trust in the data.
